How it started

Oakland has been without an Islamic school for many years. Akmal Hifth Academy starts as a weekend school and grows into a full-time school within two years, insha’Allah.

Students completing juz milestones with correct tajweed
A pipeline of local huffadh serving their own community
Families supported with structure, not just instruction

What it is

The Hifz program is dedicated to serving inner-city youth through structured Qur’an memorization in a nurturing and disciplined environment, combining consistent memorization, mentorship, and spiritual development.

It aims to empower youth with deep religious grounding and personal confidence, supported by tajweed instruction, review discipline, and character formation.

The academy is deliberately built for inner-city Oakland families: accessible, affordable, and unwilling to write off a child because of where they live.

Education Director Shaykh Bilal Gulled Mahmoud has raised five huffadh of his own — the standard the academy is built on.
