Leadership
Grounded in service. Built for the future.
UMA’s leadership combines Islamic education, community trust, safety expertise, program development, and decades of service in Oakland and the greater Bay Area.
Imam Amir Rashad
Program Director
A global top-tier teacher, coach, program developer, and chaplain. Imam Amir Rashad has taught in 7 countries and traveled to 32, and serves as a speaker, lecturer, moderator, and khatib at two masjids.
He started the “Deen Team” in 2020, the seed of what became Deen & Sports, and remains known and grounded in the community he serves.
As Program Director he owns curriculum, mentor training, and the day-to-day quality of what UMA delivers across all six initiatives.
Imam Amir Rashad
Executive Director
A visionary leader in Qur’anic solutions-based thinking and systems development. Imam Jihad A. Mustafa is a U.S. Army veteran, community leader, security expert, speaker, lecturer, and businessman with over 30 years of service.
His conviction is simple: a stronger Ummah is built through systems that outlive the people who start them.
He leads UMA’s strategy, partnerships, and the Permanent Home Campaign, and remains the operational backbone of the Muslim Incident Response Team.
Shaykh Bilal G. Mahmoud
Education Director
A genuine community resource, leader, teacher, and father of five huffadh — four boys and one girl. A Bay Area-wide consultant, advisor, and program developer with a long track record of service in many communities.
He has raised five huffadh in his own home and has spent decades helping other families do the same, so he knows what Qur’an education asks of a child, a parent, and a teacher.
He oversees Akmal Hifth Academy’s standards, teacher development, and the spiritual formation woven through every UMA program.
